The David and Edith Ackermann House was completed in April of 1912 and is an outstanding example of Prairie School architecture created by a young designer who, at the time, was an architecture student in Chicago.  The most obvious characteristics of the Prairie School movement displayed in the house are its predominant horizontal lines established by layered hipped roofs on both the upper and main levels.  Today, the home displays minimal alteration of the striking original exterior design and maintains excellent integrity of design, craftsmanship, location, materials and systems, as well as its association with the opening of Rockwood area to private development, as one of the early single-family homes built here. 

The Ackermann House is a contributing property in the Rockwood Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It was listed on the Spokane Register of Historic Places in 2011.
