Built in 1909, the Avenida Apartments was the project of two pioneer Jewish merchants, Joseph Kellner and Isaac Baum. Baum lived down the street from the Avenida at the Isaac and Tillie Baum House. Designed by architect W. W. Hyslop, the Avenida is a handsome building with spacious living quarters and is located in one of the choicest residential areas of that time in Spokane, Brownes Addition. This apartment building reflects an era after the turn of the century when many of the older, successful, established citizens wished to move from their larger homes into smaller, yet still luxurious, living quarters. The large, three-story brick building possesses Classical Revival elements and was initially designed with 14 units. Still operating as a multi-family residence, the Avenida Apartments was one of the first luxury apartment houses built in Browne’s Addition during the 1900s. W. W. Hyslop also designed the Marlboro Apartments, another joint project of Baum and Kellner, Westminster Apartments and the Elm Apartments.

The Avenida Apartments is a contributing property in the Browne's Addition Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 as well as in the Spokane Register Browne's Addition Overlay Zone passed in 2019.
